New Years' Day Amusements.
As the weather promises to be fine, the various excursions, &c, arranged for to-mor-row will no doubt be largely patronised. The Shortland Fire Brigade and the Congregational Church have arranged excursions to the Puke, in the Patiki and Te Aroha respectively, and both promise to be very successful, a trip up the ri?er at this time of the year being most enjoyable. Those who ("eel inclined for a cheap trip to Auckland races can go and return by the Rotoroahana for ss, while all who do not care for water travelling can enjoy a good day's sports at the Tararu athletic carnival. In the evening a ball will bo held in the Academy of Music, so there should be no lack of enjoyment to suit all and sundry. $jkTABAKU HANDICAPS,
