This day

The s.s. Zealandia, with the December English mails, left Pan Francisco for Auckland on the 24th inst, four days later than time table date ; the s.s. City of Sydney, with the December Colonial mails, arrived at San Francisco from Auckland on the 28th inst., two days earlier than time table date.

Government Frizes for Essays.

In connection with the Industrial Exhibition, Government intend giving prizes for essays on " The present condition and future prospects of the industrial resources of New Zealand, and the best means for fostering their development." The prizes will consist of one gold medal and 20 guineas, one silver medal and 10 guineas, and one bronze medal and 5 guineas. The essays are to be sent in on or before the Ist December, 1885.
