CHRISTMAS SHOW.

Every attraction of all sorts and descriptions is being put forth by our local { tradesmen, to gratify those of our residents who are determined to celebrate the festive season. The attractions of the drapers should draw the attention of those requiring supplies of the softer materials required for bodily comfort and decoration. The shows made by Mr Marshall in Albert and Pollen streets ; the New Zealand Clothing Factory, in Albert street; Mr S. HetberiDgton, Pollen j street; Messrs S. Ooombes and Co., Grahamstown and Shortland; J. Cosgrave and Co., Pollen street; Mrs Glover, Mary street; and Mr Short, Owen street, are creditable, and the respective inducements offered by them should cause a perusal of their stocks. Messrs McGowau, Mears, JN"ewson, and Wood all have excellent displays of groceries, and Mr W. Wood's fruit exhibition deserves special notice. In the more solid department of provision for the inner man, Messrs Neal, Townsend, and Wells.- butchers, have made a fine display; while the under standings of the people have not been forgotten by Messrs Whitehead (of Pollen street) and Crocker (of Brown street), bootmakers. In fancy goods; and who shall banish Santa Ckus, Mr C. McLiver, Brown street, and Messrs E. Morgan and Co., Pollen street, display various attractions for the young folks. The useful as well as the i ornamental, the followers of the very sensible advice given by Polonius to Laertes, "Cost}/ thy habit as thy purse can b,uy, for the apparel oft proclaims the man," may be satisfied by perusing not only the advertisements, but the respective establishments of Messrs Wiseman, Claxton, and l£eisanawski. Saturday, though the chief attraution will no doubt prave to ba the Jockey Club Summer meeting at Parawai on the two last mentioned days. This matter is, however, referred to in another column. To morrow morning the Rangers, .Navals, and others will fire a scratch match at the Collarbone range, in the afternoon at 1.30 a return cricket match, England v. World will be played at the Parawai Gardens by the Thames Club, and in the evening what should prove a most enjoyable musical entertainment will be given in the Grahamstown Wesleyan Church, when the choir and friends will render "Mother's La«=t Words" On Friday, the first day's racing of the Jockey Club Summer meeting will be held at Parawai, and excursions to that delightful holiday resort—the Pukewill be made at cheap rates by the steamers Patiki and Te Aroha, the former under charter to the Congregational Church.
