New Guinea and neighboring Islands | was expressed in the Legislative Assembly yesterday by several members. Death Sentence Reprieved. Neil McNeil, lately second mate, and Bernard Williams, lately boatswain, of the labor schooner Hopeful, who were under sentence of death for the murder of an Islander on the high seas, have been reprieved. Queensland Parliament has prorogued.

The Tasmanian Government has agreed to join in the proposed protest against the German annexation of Northern New Guinea. Mr Service has'received a telegram from the Agent-General in London confirming the news regarding German annexation in New Guinea and the Pacific. Mr MurraySmith adds that there is some hope of further negotiations taking place with re» ference to New Guinea, and that he has written to Lord Derby drawing attention to the last three resolutions on the subject passed by the International Convention at Sydney. Mr Service has sent a telegram to all the colonial Governments inviting them to unite in protesting against the action of the German Government.
