Bishop Moran on Secular Education.

(Peb Pebss Association.) Dxtnedin, Saturday. Bishop Moran, when presiding at the Christian Brothers' School break-up yesterday, said:—" Jt strikes me that when we call to mind the scandalous exhibition witnessed in this city yesterday, you will thank God for the merciful dispensation which saves your children from being told by one minister of religon, at a school exhibition, that there is little blot in our Godless education ; and by another, that all here are proud of one minister, who considers it his most important duty to make a weekly examination of his denial and contempt of Christianity. I thank God only two or three unfortunate Catholic children were there to hear men, calling themselves ministers of religion or Christ, proclaim Godless education an excellent system, and the unchristian Chairman of the meeting held up for the admiration of the rising generation. For years it has unfortunately been my lot to protest against the tyranDy and injustice that excludes our schools from all participation in the Education vote, to share which we, as taxpayers, are entitled, and to protest against the exclusion of our schools from all share in the scholarships provided by public fund. I suppose I shall have to continue my jeremiads as long as I live, although Catholic education and Catholic schools shall not be permitted to compete with secular schools, lest what is little better than an expensive sham shall be deposed."
