The manager of tbe Cambria mine telegraphed this morning :—" sOlbs specimens, intermediate drive; gold a owing—H. W. Moobb." Other telegrams were dispatched dnring the d*y as follows: —New Manukau: "Ten pounds specimens, No. 3 lead, new crosscut.—T. A. DoiaoP."—New Prince Imperial : " Lead in western drive, No. 7 level, looking better, showing a few strong colors of gold.—GK S. OliBK."
Capt. Edwin telegraphed to-day:—"Watch barometer, bad weather approaching between north-east and north and west. Glass further fall, and within six hours heavy gile and rain, and very high tide next high water."
The Primitire Methodist Sunday School soiree takes place this evening in tbe chapel, Mackay street. Addresses will be given afterwards by the Rev. J. Boothroyd and local ministers.
These was a good attendance at the meet* ing of the Mutual Improvement Association last night. After some business bad been transacted, a resolution was passed adjourning the meeting to Februa-y 9th 1885.
We have received from tbe Government printer a neatly bound volume containing the statutes paesed at tbe sittings of Parliament this year.
The tender of W. Fricker, at £1110 <, has been accepted for painting the Hospital, and the men are njw engaged on tbe work. The only o'ber tender received was that of H. Driver, at £12.
A TEAM of the Thames Cricket Club will proceed to Auckland on the last day of (he year, to play a watch with the I. Zingari Club. A challenge was received yesterday morning from the National Club, to play a match here on Boxing Day, and it is not improbable that the contest will be arranged.
We regret to learn that Mr D. Fitkethley has met with an accident which has endangered the sight of his left eye. While hammering a bar of steel a day or two ago a minute splinter one-third of an inch long flew off and penetrated the front and middle structures of the eye, causing almost total blindnesß in it. Mr Pitkethley proceeded to Auckland on Saturday night, and yesterday consulted Dr» Wilkins and Richards who believe fchit by proper treatment, good useful sight can be again restored to the eye.

These was some sensational scoring on the Auckland Domain Ground on Saturday last. W. E. Burton put together 190 for Auckland against the United, and his brother, H. O. Carton, ran up 100 for Auckland 2nd Bleyea agairst United 2nd Eleven. He was presented with a bat by his comrades. C. F. Reid made 79 for West End against Otahuhu.
A man arrested in Ohristchuroh on Sunday night, for drunkenness, has paid rather dearly for his spree. He lost £250, and bad to pay fines, etc., amounting to £2 9s.
The schooner Golden Isle, which was beached at Palliser Bay some little time ago, has been successfully launched and taken to Wellington.
The Commissioner of Telegraphs has declined the request made by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, supported by the Wellington Chamber, for a reduction in the rates of subscription to the Telephone Exchange. He promises consideration of the matter when preparing next year's estimates.

Thb Hon. P. A. Buckley left Wellington by the e.B. Te Arau yesterday for the South, on a tour of inspection of hospitals and charitable institutions of the co!ony.
At the Hawera Police Court yesterday Kobfc. Bofkill, late railway station-master at Normanby, was discharged on the charge of embezzlement. The Crown offered no evidence, as it was believed he was not a criminal, but that it was simply a case of muddling of the accounts.
At a meeting of the creditors of John Low, photographer, j D Auckland on Saturday, the Official Assignee explained that the debtor had raised £40 on some property, and £35 upon his aged father's life policy, bo:h of which sums were remitted to Mr Harkisa in liquidation of his debt of £153 to the latter. Yet, despite thh payment of £211 in respect of the debt of £153, Harhiss claimed a further sum of £200 in respect of the same £153. Another meeting was held yesterday, when an investigation showed that the debtor had received from Harkiss £225 Ise, for which he wa* charged £490 10s. 0f this he had paid £236 10s, leaving a balance of £254 still due. The creditors decided to resist Harkißs' claim unless the Assignee is satisfied that it is fair and correct, and also that the debtor's discharge he facilitated, as the case appeared one of genuine distress.
