The second hearing of the criminal libel action, brought by Sir Henry Parkes against William Webb, publisher of the Campbelltown Herald, concluded to-day, the jury again being unable to agree upon a verdict.
Brisbane, Saturday, A Barque Burnt at Sea. News has been received here of the total loss of the barque New Orleans, bound from Hamburg to Apia. The vessel was burnt at sea, and the crew took to the boats, a portion of them being rescued by a passing vessel after leaving the ship. Adelaide, Saturday. Anglo-Australian Cricket. The cricket match between the Australian and English Elevens was resumed to-day. The attendance of spectators was very large, but owing to the inclemency of the weather the play was stopped at intervals during the day. The Englishmen went in this morning, and when the stumps were drawn for the day, had scored 233 runs with a loss of only two wickets. The following are the scorers:—Shrewsbury, b, 0; Dlyett, c, 70; Seotton, not out, 71; Barnes, not out, 86 ; extras, 6. —Total for two wickets, 233.
