WHY SHE DIDN'T.
A young woman from the country was suing her ex^sweetheart for breach of promise, and the lawyers were, as usual, making all sorts of inquisitive interrogatories.
"You say," remarked one, "that the defendant frequently sat very closq to you ?"
" Yes, sir," was the reply, with a hectic flush. " How close ?" " Close enough, so's one cheer was all the sittin' room we needed." " And you say he put bis arm around you ?" " JSTo, I didn't." " What did you say, then ?" " I said he put both anna around mo." " Then what ?"
" He hugged me." '" Very bard ?"
" Yes, he did. So hard that I come purty near hollerin' right out." "Why didn't you holler?" " 'Cause,"
" That's no reason. Be explicit, please. Because what ?"
" 'Cause I was afeerd he'd stop." The Court fell off the bench and had to be carried out and put under the hydrant for purpose of resuscitation.
