OUR MINES.

CAMBBIA. The prospects of this mine are daily becoming brighter, and the increasing length of the run of gold in the east drive, and the depth to which it has been followed in the winze, may safely be taken as indications that both the block below the 230 ft level, and the one above it, will be found rich when working is fairly under way. A breaking in the east drive last night resulted in 501bs of good specimens being bagged at a point 40ft. away from the winze, while good gold was left showing in the face. The precious metal is still found chiefly in the hangingwall of the lode, of which about 4ft. wide is shot down and sent to the mill, where the general dirt is shaping between 1| and 2ozs per load. The stopes are looking about the same as usual, and in shooting down the main reef, close to the winze, preparatory to timbering, colors of the precious metal are seen. The haul of 401bs specimens obtained in the winze yesterday was bagged while breaking the footwall portion of the lode, below where the previous parcel was got. The stone is of excellent quality, the gold not being confined to a narrow seam, but being distributed over a vein of heavily mineralised quartz 6 or 8 inches wide, the precious metal being mixed, with the copper and mundic. The point where this haul was obtained is 50ft. below the level, or about half way to where No. 3 drive will cut the lode. The manager has obtained a large iron box in which to j keep the specimens, thus doing away with the inconvenience of having to bring each haul down to the bank. DARWIN.

The lode in the face of the western drive is a strong body of quartz quite 3ft wide, well mineralised, while gold is seen both in the solid quartz and in the footwall stringers. As soon as the face has been advanced far enough a winze will be started to communicate with No. 3 level, and the manager is also of opinion that the run of gold near the top of the Cambria winze should be come upon in sinking. This work will not, howeve?, interfere with the extension of the drive. As soon as the hopper is full crushing will be started. HEIGHT SMILE. The drive at the iow level is at a standstill for the present, and the men have been started to drive west from the intermediate level, 40 feet below Garvey's level. The country was hard where work was started, but a much better class of sandstone is now appearing, with mundic veins striking through it—an almost infallible sign of being near gold in this locality. The crushing is not finished yet, but the general dirt has shaped for a good payable return, which will be supplemented by that from a small parcel of specimens on hand. ADELAIDE, The proprietors of this claim banked 47ozs 9dwts of melted gold to-day, the result of a crushing of 34 loads at Ball's, battery. The dirt was taken from the stopes above the General Chute lejel, where the reef is a fair siae, and the yield is a good payable one.

A man who bad a scolding wife, being asked what he did for a living, replied " that he kept a hot-house." Ail your own fault if you remain sick or out of health, when you oaa get Hop Bitters. Bead
