Waiorongomai Mining.
Battery.—The returns of amalgam and of gold for the week ending the Bth inst. were as follows :—New Find—Bs trucks, 62ozs 15dwts gold ; takings, 20ozs lodwts; total, 83ozs IQdwts. Colonist—s2 trucks, 72ogs amalgam (hot water). Canadian-^----15 trucks, 20ozs amalgam (hot waier).
New Find.—Theimpro^emeut reported last week in the noyfch end of the low level still continues, and the reef has at^ eacfc breaking down shown gold in sufSeienS : quantity to warrant the sup.p&sifeion that it is quite payable, Jt is about 4ft. in width, Th,er^ is na change yet in the south end of the level, the reef there having still the same hungry look. Good crushing stuff continues to come from the winze gomg down in the Arizona level, and fro:?* the stopes going northward No. 2, or smithy level, soi&a excellent stone has beea goi during the week. CoiioNisT. —There is a good reef in hand in the winze that is being sunk from tJb.fi No. 2to the low level. The deptli is how over 35 feet, or about hsl| the depth to be sunk, i^nd tag ~.toae aontinues to show a faiy s'prinirlisg of gold. There will he a large block of ;he reef to operateoa when the wiozo ie carried down to the Irfsaj
The lode in that level has not yet improved to the extent that was looked for, but there are signs of a better class of country coming in, which will probably have a favorable effect upon the quality of the reef.
Pbemier. —The trial parcel of stuff crushed during the week from the lode now being worked having given a most satisfactory return (29ozs from 6 trucks) extra hands will be put on, and operations vigorously proceeded with. Although the vein has been worked to some extent in the level below, there is still a large amount of untried ground between' the place where the parcel was taken from and the main line of the reef, and if the gold runs in that direction a large quantity of crushing stuff will be easily procurable. Canadian.—The drive on the western branch of the reef in the end of the low level is still being pushed ahead, but although the appearance of the lode is no less encouraging than hitherto, the quartz sent to the battery has not proved payable. Driving is being continued in the hope that better stuff will shortly be met with.
DrAMOND Gully.— Everything will be in readiness in the beginning of the week to forward quartz to the tramway, and no time will then be lost in commencing operations at the battery.
Mat Queen. —On Saturday last exoeU lent stone was met with in the upper winze. The low level is now in to the lode, but the haDgingwal), on which side the best gold bearing portion lies, has not yet been reached. Good prospects are obtained from the stuff already broken down, and these are likely to improve aa the reef is opened up.—News.
