WELLINGTON.
This day. The Trunk Line. The Government intend to push on the necessary surveys in connection with the North Island Main Trunk line as quickly as possible. Operations will be commenced at both ends, and some of the surveyors engaged for the Northern section leave for Auckland by the Tarawera to day. It is believed that the first contract will be out in two months, and work will commence simultaneously at Marton and Te Awamutu.
Bishop Hadfield returned from a visit to the Old Country to-day.
