London, November 11.
A force of Marines has been sent to the Isle of Skye in consequence of the defiant attitude of the Crofters there.
The Pope, in an Encyclical letter, rejoices at the progress made by Catholics resident in Australia.
The fourth series of the year's wool sales opened to-day, there being a good attendance of buyers present. The prices maintained the average of those obtained at the close of the last sales, cross-breds being rather firmer. The number of bales available is one hundred and forty three thousand, and forty thousand bales of the new season's clip. The following were late arrivals:—Kent, Liguria, Glenoche, and Port Adelaide from Australia, and the Florida, Dunedin, and Alastor from New Zealand.
November 12. Admiral Tryon was entertained at a banquet by Sir Saul Samuel, AgentGeneral for New South Wales. Amongst those present were the Agents-General for the various colonies and Major General Scratchley. At a meeting of the Committee of the British Association, held to-day, it was decided that the meeting of the Association in 188(3 would be held at Birmingham. It is also considered probable that the meeting in the year following will be held at Manchester.
