The barque Clyde, which left here yesterday morning for Lyttelton, is ashore at Devauehelles Bay, near Akaraoa Heads.

The vessel is a barque of 582 tons-. Captain Bulmer had his wife and three children on board. He was well acquainted with the coast. The Clyde belonged to the fleet of J. C- Ellis and Co., of Newcastle (N.S.W.). The following were the crew on board:—Wm. Currie (mate), H. Ferdinand (second mate), Richard Marney (A.8.), Herbert Bohl (boy), Ah Lah (cook), Ah Ling (boy;, David Murray, H. Sampson, W. McLean, P. Loderguest, T. Smith, Charles Crown, Andrew Christopherson (A.B.'s.) A message from Devauchelles Bay, at 12.15 p.m. says:—"Clyde struck on reef at Horseshoe Bay, near Akaroa, South Heads. An apprentice who was saved fears the vessel has broken up, and all lives lost except the mate and boatswain. These two men were seen clinging od the the bottom of a boat drifting towards land. The s.s. Akaroa left Akaroa an hour ago for the scene of the wreck.
