PARLIAMENTARY GOSSIP.
[By Telegbaph.] (feom otte own cobbbsfohdknt.)
Wellington, This day
This afternoon's proceedings will probably be occupied fully by an interesting debate between the leaders of the House on that great and always new subject— the incidence of taxation. It will be remembered that upon the motion for the adjournment of the House on Saturday, Major Atkinson desired to make an explanation in combat of what he termed the fallacious arguments of the Premier and Colonial Treasurer during the debate on the second reading of the Property Tax Bill. The House, however, was impatient to rise, and it was understood, on the Speaker's ruling, that 'Major Atkinson should have his opportunity today. He will probably speak for nearly an hour, but in order to save time it has been arranged that none of the Government side shall speak, except the Colonial Treasurer, in reply to Major Atkinson, and the Opposition will probably pursue the same tactics.
There is a good deal of business to day on the order paper, of which I have already advised you, and it is expected that if the Estimates can be reached tonight we shall have an all night's sitting.
