NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.

The manager reported on Saturday :— " No. 7 level : The crosscut is proceeding very satisfactorily, 20ft having been driven for the week, which makes the total distance now from the chamber 50ft. The ground still continues a very hard class of sandstone, through which speedy progress cannot be made. No 6 level: Driving eastward to connect with the winze which is being sunk on the lead from No. 5 level was resumed this week. There is no leader at present in the drive, which is being carried straight for the winze, about 30ft. ahf-ad. The work of opening up the block westward of the break is now being pushed on as speedily as possible. The gas arising through the flooding of tho 640 ft. level greatly retarded this work, as there was fully a week that no work could be carried on from the inter* mediate level of the Cross winze. The lead in this section, so far as opened up, looks very well, being from 6 to 12 inches thick, showing gold pretty freely, from which about lOlbs picked stone have been selected. The extent of this block is 35i"t on this level, extending to a length of 80ft at No. 5 level. The stopes eastward of the break are looking the same, the lead still being very small, and considerably knocked about by tho large heady ground. The last stopes east aid west from the winze are now in hand, but there is still about 25 or 30ft. of backs afc the break. A few pounds of specimens continue to come to hand from here daily. No. 5 level: The winze on No. 2 lead east, which is now 63ft, deep, should be down the required distance (76ft) next week, A fairsized body of stone is continuing down, but it is not very well defined, nor has any gold been seen lately. The lead in the eastern drive, which is still in pro- ' gress, is about 2ft thick, but is at present j of a rather hard and whitish description for carrying much gold, but as the stopes ascend a considerable improvement is noticeable.—Gr. S. Cliee."

QUEEN OF BEAUTY,

The contractors for deepening tho rasin shaft have, notwithstanding the difficulties of getting ready for a start, sunk nine feet during; tho past fortnight. This is good progress, though even better headway will probably be made now everything is in trim. The country is a spleadid white sandstone. The trial fpom the cross-reef which camo ia while driving on the Vanguard lode at No. 8 will be sent to the mill this week ; operations on the lode have been stopped for the present. The pumps continue to keep the wate? out with ease. •

KURANUI SILL*

A start was made this morning to sink another winae on the No. I reef at the tunnel level. The point at wbieh operations have been commenced is close under the slide, Tho work of stoping out the reef on each side of the first winze is proceeding as usual, ard crushing will &c commenced next week, when, tsi&Js from here and the Nos. 1 and £ reefs at the Albion 80ft. levol wiH be treated.

CALEDONIAN.

The manager reports tha£ ike crosscut at No. 3 level is not yet ihrough the hard bar, though a phfinge for the better has been noticeable during the last two or ihrco dajs, making progress somewhat easier. At No. 2 level, tha contractors have driven 24|fk, oa the Red Queen leader, which, ou being broken on Friday, averaged fully lOin. in width and showed strong colors aid dabs of coarse gold

throughout. The leader in the bottom of the drive is larger and t3tter than in the roof, thus auguring well for the next level. Eight loids from here are now being crushed, and the dirt is showing up very well. There is no change in the underhand stope on No. 1 reef, but the work is being pushri on towards No. 4 wr.nz9, wbere gold is rfjnrfid +~> have been found. EOCKY POINT. Crushing was started with 10 head of stampers at the Quean of Beauty battery this morning, but as there is a large parcel to put through, and the mill^ is runniug only 16 hours per day, cleaning up wiU rot take place till next week. NEW NOETH DEVON. The crosscut from the El Dorado shaft having passed the point at which the Sons of Prrr iom reef should have b( m cut, it has been decided to stop work in the face, and drive on the leader last passed through, and which showed gold when pounded. WAIOEONGOMAI. Mr T. Scott, manager of this mine, lodged 77ozs 9dwts of melted gold this morning, being the excellent return from a crushing of 35 trucks of quartz from the rraf out of which the last crushing was taken. The parcel just treated was obtained from a lower level than the previous one, and the price (£3 8s 4d per ounce) is higher, so the reef appears to be improving as it goes down. A still lower level will be started shortly. The reef is from 18in. to 2ft. wide, and heavily mineralised. The manager is also just about to start driving, from the Vermont low level, on the flat reef in the Virginia City section, and in which the Vermont company got good gold just on the boundary. This level will giro Mr Scott fully 80ft of backs to the surface. This reef is large, and were communication to be made with the tramway, a number of stamps could easily be kept constantly employed. GOLD EETDENS. Eubanci Hill.—Eowe and party have banked 2ozs 14dwts gold. Moanataibi. — Harris and party's crushing gave loz lodwts gold. Moanataibi.—Smith and party haTe banked 2ozs 6dwts gold.
