PARLIAMENTARY GOSSIP.

The Houso meets this afternoon instead of this evening, as usual, in order that members may be allowed an opportunity of attending Lady Vogel's first ball this session. There is not likely to be very much done, as many members will be absent at the cricket match, which takes place to-day between members of the Legislature and a team from the Civil Serfice.
Another Portfolio. On the Order Paper there is mention of I a bill being introduced in Committee today entitled " A Bill to Amend the Civil List," an Act which intimately concerns the proposal to create another portfolio, and which Ministers intend to introduce and push through a thin House this afternoon; so, at least, Bays merry rumor, but rumor is oft times a lying jade, and I only give you this as an item of. lobby gossip. It is understood that Major Atkinson is very favorably disposed towards the proposal for another Mini&ter, and will not therefore offer any Opposition to the biil whenever it may be discussed. A Windfall to a Legislator. W
Mr Hirst, member for Wallace, hag just come in for a legacy of twenty thousand pounds by the recent death of his father.
