OUR MINES.
DEEP LEVEL CROSS.
% A pleasing discovery has been made in the southern crosscut at the Imperial No. 5 level. Quartz, was struck yesterday, and when cut through was found to be a promising lode a foot wide, carrying ex- " cellent minerals. As its cousre is nearly the sansse as the crosscut, though slightly more to the westward, the drive was turned in that direction. A further breaking last night and to-day revealed good colors of gold in the lode, which is rather smaller than where first cut. The fact of getting gold here is very encourag ing, as the present level is quite 40ft below the bottom level of the Mariner shaft, and affords good backs, as very little work has been done on the lode cut immediately above, or seaward of, the point of intersection. The leader in , hand will also junction with other reefs of the Mariner series as driven on, CAMBRIA. The winze below the 230 ft level is now 7ft deep. Thereof is rather larger than r usual, showing colors and dabs of gold freely, while the quartz also carries the same favorable mineral indications as before. The western drire and leading stope continue to yield good payable dirt,* and there is no change to report in the cist drive. 4. QUEEN OF BEAUTY. The pumping machinery continues to work most smoothly, and the water baring been reduced below No. 10 level, the speed was this morning reduced to six double strokes per minute, this being sufficient to keep the water under. The contractors for sinking the shaft will now start work without delay. GOLD RETURNS. Lonehand —Gribble and party, tributers, have banked loz 7dwts gold. MoA.NATi.iRi— J. Kneebone and party have crushed 5 tons quartz for the good yield of 22ozs gold.
