PARLIAMENTARY GOSSIP.
[By Telegraph.]
(EBOM OTTE OWN COBB2SPONDUNT.)
Wellington, Last night.
The report of the North Island.Tru.nk Railway Committee was laid on the table shortly before the adjournment this afternoon, and Auckland and Taranaki are now in tears, while the loud timbrel of joy is sounding in Wellington. The last meeting of the committee was held this morning, and the motion in favor of the adoption of the central route was moved by Mr Fulton, member for Taieri. Mr Montgomery moved an amendment in favour of the Stratford route, but upon the Committee dividing found himself in a hopeless minority, his being the only vote recorded in favor of the western line. Upon this report being presented by Mr Richardson, chairman of the Committee, the Minister for Public Works gave notice of his intention to move—"That the report be considered by the House on Monday evening." It now remains to be seen whether the Auckland and Taranaki members will allow the recommendation of tbo Committee to finally settle the question of route.
