SPECIALITY ! SPECIALISTS! Dratv on Nature — she compels you to honour the acceptance. rpHIRTY years eince, when Db Smith first JL commenced practice here, ifc wbs thought by medical men, that to be a Specialist was derogatory to the professional man, but thi? 5 liks most other innovations in scientific and lay matters, was foun! rather to aid than to be " infra dig " to that profession, wherein the speciality was practised. Lallemand end Ricord, in France, and Aoton, in England, were for years cried down by their medical brethren. Now and :or many past years they have been looked up to, and quoted, by every man who pretends to have any knowledge of the particular branch of the profession which these gentlemen specially devoted themselves to. It was the same with Erasmus Wilson, the " Skin Doctor," recently knighted by Her Majesty. Years since, it was the same with Dr. L. L. Smith, of Melbourne, who practised (as did Lallemand and Eicord) as a specialist. In all cases of diseases and habits which produce symptoms of Nervous Affections, of Skin Eruptions, of Prostration, and make human beings invirile, or which unfit them to carry on the purpobes of their being, or which demonstrates itself, on the other hand, iv Eruptive Diseases and. Secondary Forms of Affections. In all of these cases how necessary it is to have the Specialist who has devoted his whole lifetime to the studying a<- d practising in this one branch of hia profession ? Hence, now, after so many years, all minutiss ara familiar to him, and symptoms which (it is not unreasonable to suppose) may rot strike the General Practitioner at once, now from constant practice and observation made Dr. L. L. Smith master of the subject. The medical profession—that, is, the more liberal-minded of them—have likewise recognised thia fact, and' Specialists now in every brui:ch—-oculists, aurista, syphilic, mental diseases, cheat diueases, and iv fact every portion of the human frame, bus ! ow aorae member of the profession who devotes his time to that, and to none other. For instance, the "chest doctor" would on no account attend an aeeouc ement, and the oculist would not think of setting a broken leg ; but ouch. w*ould advise his patient to go to that doctor who is most filmed for treating the disease requiring special skill. De L. L. Smith asks thoßO who require treatment for Weakness, Prostration, Barren' ness, and Steriliiy, who^e frames and whose constitutions are shattered, to consult him as an expert —thirty (30) years practice iv this colony, wit!i a practice extending throughout not only tha Colonies but in India, China, Fiji, and oven in England, he.claims ought to be sufficient to cause every mau or woman requii'iog such skill as is alluded to above, to consult him either personally or by letter. As a Syphilographer no other medical man has been able to have such large experience as he possesses, and for other allied affections— such as Nervous disease—no one in tho profession has enjoyed so much public confidence. DR L. L. SMITH. CONSULTATION FEE SY LETTER, £1. Medicine appropriately packed and forwarded ali over the civilised globe. DR L. L. SMITH, 182, Collins street East, Melboubne.
