OUR MINES.

NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.

A start was made yesterday to put the specimens on hand, 16§cwt, through the single stamper at the company's battery. The whole of them will be through this evening, and the amalgam (from them aione) will be retorted to-momm morn* ing. The manager forwarded the follow* ing memo, to^the directors last night :— " A leader fully 8 inches thick was cut today in the footwall drive on the break at No. 6 level. Very little quartz has. been broken down yet, but the stone looks well. I think it is the No. 2 had, which has hove 30ft to the left. Tbe footwali portion is still about 30ft ahead. As the specimen boxes were full, a commencement was made today to reduce them. So far they are shaping fully up to the usual average.—G. 8. Clabk." The specimens continue to shape well, and a good average return should be the result of the retorting. A further portion of the new lead at No. 6 was broken to-day, but no gold was seen in the stone, and the crosscut is now being pushed ahead.

CALEDONIAN LOW LEVEL. '

• Timbering operations having been com* pleted in the 640 ft level crosscut, the men have started one of the parallel crosscuts at a point some distance back from the slide. The other crosscut will be commenced shortly. Toe slide is emitting a considerable stream of water, the extra flow necessitating the Big Pump being driven a stroke per minute faster, but this will decrease as the country drains. DART. In breaking down the No. 2 reef in the winze, below No. 3 level yesterday gold was freely seen through the quartz, and two or three pounds of picked stone were bagged. The footwall branch has now joined the hangingwall one, the whole reef being about 2ft wide. The company's battery will start crushing on Monday next, on dirt from the wioze and No. 4 level. GOLD RETURNS. Moanatairi.—J. George and party have crushed 4 tons for sbzs 2dwts gold, and Williams and party have banked 23ozs as the result of 8 tons.

Caledonians—lrwin and party have banked 3ozs 2dwts gold.
