Waiorongomai Mining.

New Find.—Driving and stoping are going on as usual in the. north end of the low level. The reef in the drive has changed somewhat in character, but it still carries gold. From the stopes excellent . crushing dirt is coming out. Driving on the reef, Arizona level, has not jet been resumed. To connect this part of the mine with the low level a winze is about to be started. Good stuff is still coming from the lode last opened up in the higher part of the claim, and from a strong cross'vein running from it to the main reef excellent crushing dirb is also being got. i Colonist.—The reef gradually improves as driven-on southward in the low level, the quartz broken during the last few days having shown gold a little more freely. An intermediate drive has been started between the No. 2 and low levels, and good crushing staff is being got therefrom. 'When this block is fairly opened up it is likely to yield a large quantity of payable stone. The stopes in the upper part of the mine are producing fair crushing dirt, but the reef has been rapidly worked out, and three or four weeks will see the block exhausted. Pbemieb. —The wet weather has beena great hindrance to surface prospecting, and comparatively little work of that description has recently been done. Attention during this period has been chiefly given to a further trial of tfc&J^ **r%f in the upper drive of the old "working*. Some fair gold bearing stone has been got in the floor of the drive, and a winze has been started to prove whether the run may not have dipped in a different direction from that which it was at first supposed to take. " . Canadian.—The vein opened on last week on the western side of the mam reef in the low level has much increased in size. It is now from two to three feet in width, and from the prospects obtained is likely to show up better at the battery than the stuff recently crushed from the other workings. Stoping operations are going on as usual over the upper level. Diamond Guilt.—The leading stope is now in past the winze. The reef is from two to three feet, and continues to 1 look well. During the week a few pounds of picked stone have, been obtained, and the general stuff is of good average quality. Waiobongomai.-—A 40 ton parcel or stuff from this mine is now in course of treatment at the battery, and from appearance is likely to give a payable return. Vf ay Queen.—Work is being continued onthe reef from which the recent crushing was taken. There is still a fair show of gold, particularly in the drive started on the tramway level, the vein having improved in quality there within the la3t few Phcenix. —The lode has recently been opened up on the surface, about 100 ft. south frcm the crosscut, and some nice cold bearing stone obtained. This find is likely to add largely to the extent of pay. able ground, and a level will shortly be commenced to prove the reef much below the present workings. m Stanley.—The recent trial crushing of 5 tons from this claim gave a return sufficiently good to justify a continuance of oSons. The reef from which the parcel is some 10 or 12ft. in width, and can ie cheaply worked. The quartz is also easily treated; and from the proximity of thl da i* to the battery, the stuff can be BUtSto the hoppers at a very small cost. SiVre is every Hkelihood that this property will jet become a very valuable one.—News. .;
