Ohinemuri Goldfiold.

FBOM OVR OWAT CORRESPONDENT.)

Paeeoa, Saturday. KARANGAHAKE.

Ivanhob.—Up till Wednesday evening last the Haurnki battery of 16 stampers had been running 16 hoars per diem epon stuff from this claim. I find that it is utterly impossible to obtain anything; like reliable information respecting the amount of amalgam on hand, but the general opinion is that the crushing is shaping for an all round return of one ounce per ton. At the mine the workmen at the intermediate level hare holed through to the Scott workings, a few feet above the surface level in the last mentioned claim. The reef has averaged 6 feet in thickness, and shows gold freely in the stone. Crushing with 8 head of stampers two shifts of 12 hours each is now going on, and will be continued for some consider* able time to come.

Sib Walter Scott. —Crushing operas tions for this claim were started en Thursday morning last with eight head of stampers, which will be kept fully em* ployed until a parcel of about 200 tons has been reduced. In the low level there is no sign of the reef as yet, but the manager expects to meat with it in the course of a few feet more, driving, Golden Cbown.—The manager has started to haul quartz from the intermediate level to a point on the County track, where it is being stacked awaiting transmission- to the battery. WAIHI. Mahtha Extended.—l hare just heard from good authority that the reef, in the low level tunnel, shows gold freely, and that the crushing therefrom, which* is now being put through the battery, is shaping for a return of fully loz. per ton. Not long since I overheard a learned mining expert say that gold in remunerative quantities would never be obtained in this mine, and when asked to give some better grounds than mere assertions for such a theory, he said that he reasoned from anology, never having seen a reef of thai; character yielding payable returns. This is another of the many instances of mis* placed confidence that wo bare experienced lately in this district. I have always considered it a piece of presumption for any man, no matter what his experience elsewhere, to venture a decided opinion upon, the reef system in a new district, and the more I see of gold mio^ ing the more am I convinced that, when once in a gold-bearing region, Cousin Jack's theory is the only correct one, viz., " Where it is, there it be." '

The manager of the Martha Extended telegraphed on Friday afternoon:—Ten head still going on low level stuff, which is showing for over an ounce. Beef looking better.

[By Telegbaph.]

(PHOM OUB OWN COBBBSPOWBENT.) Paeboa, This day. Si < Walter Scott.—At the low level, shortly after despatching Saturday's letter, the reef was disclosed to view by means of a shot fired in the western wall, quite close to the break. As yet it has not been, sufficiently cut into to ascertain its value.
