The crosscut at No. 4 level is now in some five or.six feet past the hangingwail branch of No. 2'reef, and the main portion is expected to come to hand 10 or 15ft. ahead. The country is an excellent white sandstone, and water in issuing from the face. Work on the Alfred leader at No. 2 level has been temporarily stopped, and the men removed to this "winze on No. 2 reef at No. 3 level. This winse; was started some time ago, bat had to be stopped on account of water. It will descend about 35ft west of where the crosscut will touch the reef. No quartz will be broken till next week. : . This work was necessary, owing to the battery being badly constructed, I hare- crushed 268 tons of quartz for tike company, for a return of 3640z5. 16dwts, of melted gold, and 48 tons of quarts for outside elaimi. I have handed over to the legal manager all tools for mine and battery, and have left two men timbering up the low level. I desire to tender you my resignation at manager.—l am, Ac, Thos. Buck. —P.S.
