PARLIAMENTARY GOSSIP.

[B* TELEGfHAPH;]

(FfiOM OtrJß 'pittf-' COBHESPONDENT.)

WMimqrTON^Jj&at night.

Mr Thomson's announcement this after-

noon that he had undertaken the formation of a Ministry took the House somewhat by surprise. Ifc wag thought that be would announce that he had advised His Excellency to send for either Sir Sir George Grey or Mr Ormond, as it was known he had been in consultation with both gentlemen during the forenoon. It is now quito problematical as to whom Mr Thompson will succeed in getting to join him as colleagues. Both Sir George Grey and Mr Ormond have been mentioned as Premier in the next Ministry, but everything is yet very uucertaiu ; in fact the only certainty seems to be that ally Ministry formed by the member for Clutha can have a no longer existence than the Ministry which has just been defeated.

Everything is now quiet-; few members are in the lobbies. The feeling generally is to aljow Mr > Tbomsoa to hare his innings before, anything can be done to change the position of affairs for tho benefit of the country at large. Cabinet making will now be the chief Bubject of interest, until Tuesday, when the prospect of tho incoming Ministry may bo fairly discussed. ', ' - This day. . Mr Thomson moves. in»a mysterious way, but does- not appear to be making Tery rapid progress with his Cabinetmftkiog. It is reported that Sir George

Grey, Major- Atkinson, and Mr Ormorid; baveull rieclinori to assist the member for Clutha; but this moruing, accompanied by Mr Wakefield, Mr Thomson had, another interview with Sir George GreyY the result of which has not transpired; ■ It is expected that Mr Thomson^-.will;, have to inform His Excellency that be is unable to form an administration. : •• ■' ■•■■.■,.'.' .Later.-;.:--: The Vogel Party. ■;" A cauc.us of the Vogel party was held last nig^t, when it is understood supporters were released from party pledges. It is rumored that the party was disbanded, but this is not. true. .Mr Stout was authorised to couyene'meetings whenever necessary. \\ ;
