D EEP LEVEL CROSS.
The reef intersected in the No. 4 level crosscut has :now^)een cut, thrqngh mc thej top^of 5 the drive. Itl is 'there abbut 20ft. thick, but as the hanging wall is standing much straighter than the, footwall, it will not, be, so wide in the floor.. No gold biasi been seen, but as the^ quartz is promising in appearance, the manager will put a few loads through as a trial. Crushing will be started at the Herald mill to morrow, and parcels from the small leader at the 640 ft. level,; and the footwall lead at the intermediaie lflrel, besides that from the new reef, will be treated. .-.''■' - '. CALEDONIAN.
Stoping is still in progress on the Red Queen leader, and five head of stamps are kept einpldyed at the Herald battery.^ The crosscut at No.; 3;leyelißin 4£lft.,and^ no sign of the hard Bar has yet been met with, so it is hoped that by following the leader in the; facethe'unfavorable" country wiW be altogether avoided.
MOANATAIRI.
The manager reports that the westerly drife in.the Waitemata section has been extended 45ft. from the crosscut. The quarfz is very promising. .The stppes on; No. 9 reef, under Guthrie's old tribute^ block, are looking >well for gold ■, though only aicolor or two of the precious metal has been Veen during thie-week.
