The statement made by the Times yesterday that China has declared war against France is still unconfirmed, a"nd it has transpired that a note recently addressed to the Powers by the Chinese Gorernment strongly protested against the action of France, and invoked the mediation of the Powers with a riew to bring about ft peaceful solution of the difficulty. -Behxin, August 17. Germany and Egypt. The German Consul-General at Cairo has been summoned to Varzin to confer with Prince Bismarck upon the state of affairs in Egypt.

The Times, in its issue this morning, announces that -China has declared war against France, and. is making active preparatipns; to prosecute hostilities.
