A terrific thunderstorm passed over Scotland yesterday. Much damage was done to property, in the path of the storm, and several persons were killed by lightning. Lord Londesdale, who was out shooting dnring the storm, was struck by lightning, and now lies in a very precarious,co'fifdition.''

The third of the year's series of colonial wool austions opened to day before a large attendance of home and foreign buyers. The opening catalogue comprised 8700 bales, for which a fair demand was manifested, crossbreds ruling rather higher than, at close' of last quotations. The quantity of wool to be offered during the series is limited to 334,000 bales. The sales will close on September 18th.
