Sandy M'Lean, a licensed grocer, in one of the rural towns of Lanarkshire, one night, while counting the takings of tbe , day, discoTered two counterfeit shillings which his better half had' accepted in mistake. On returning with hia load, he again.obserred the grocer in his garden; so be made another call at the" shop, this time for an " unce o' thick t'obaucco," for which he tendered another shilling, and receired the change. At night, when passing homewards, he was accosted by tbe grocer, who inquired, " Hoo cam' ye on wi' the shillings I gied ye ? Did ye get them awa " "Ou ay," replied Tarn, " I sune got them awa'." " Ha, ba!" laughed the grocer. " An' wha was fuiish enough to'tak' them, Tarn?" It was the carter's turn now to laugh, as be replied, " Look in your drawer Andrew, an',yer'll soon ken | who's ta'en them;"" and, applying the whip to his horse, he trotted off. . -
