This day. At a conference last night of the Dunedin suburban School Committees, resolutions were carried in favor of the abolition of cumulative voting; for the alteration of the compulsory clause in the .direction of compelling every child of school age, residing in a school district, to attend a school 45 days in each quarter; that the education department should appoint truant officers, charged with the duty of enforcing compulsory clauses ; that it is desirable that the powers of committees should be enlarged, especially in connection with the appointment of teachers; that the present syllabus is excessive, and requires, immediate revision ; and that history and geography should be excluded as subjects in standards.
