The Small-pox Case.

Chiistchcjbch, Last night. The Government have instructed Dr. Eouse, Health Officer for Lyttelton; to inspect the crews and passengers on board sailing and steam vessels coming direct or coastwise from Australian ports. Arrangements hav9: been made for the investigation to be made before the vessels make fast to the wharf, so that as little delay as possible may occur in landing the passengers.

Ai a meeting of the Board of Health last night a letter'was read from Dr Jackson at the quarantine station, siating /hat the patient Mowatt is progressing farorably. The Mayor saidjj; was intended to release the Hospital from quarantine as soon as it was known all the persons the^re; had been raccinated successfully. The Mayor also read the following telegram from the Premier :•—" Major Atkinson sends you his best thanks, for the prompt and Tery judicious steps you have taken in the matter of the small-pox patient, and hopes that the result may be as successful as they deserve. He has not any suggestion to make where ; everything possible seems to have been done.
