THE OPENING OF PARLIAMENT.

Wellington, This day. Immediately after the opening of Parliament this afternoon the members will be sworn in, and the Speaker elected, after which the House will adjourn until tomorrow, when the Premier will make a statement as to the intentions of Government.. ■- -...,: ■■■ -.'■■ .-:, :••■'■•■. Liter. . The Commissioners opened Parliament at 2 o'clock, and stated that His Excellency the Governor would, on Thursday, the 14th instant, attend and explain his reason for calling Parliament together. The swearing in is now taking place in the House of Representatives. In the House of Representatives Mr Fulton proposed, and Mr Macandrew seconded,, the nomination of Sir G. M. O'Rorke as Speaker. He was elected unanimously. I. Major Atkinson congratulated the Speaker on his appointment, and the House adjourned until 2.30 o'clock, when Major Atkinson intimated he would make a Ministerial Statement as to what course the Government would adopt.
