Purchased a mill at Waihi; he was then worth £70, He gave £30 in cash for it, andL billsfor £207. A quantity of timber was still at the mill, which a creditor had seized, and he filed to prevent a sacrifice of th^stook. faking the full ralu* of *

the timber, his assets would cover his liabilities. He had lost £370-in th^ ; Martha Company, at Waihi. •■••; ■ To the Deputy Assi^riee: Had not included certain sleepers at Waihi in his schedule, as Mr Darroiv "had partly paid for them; the payment was made on the day he filed. Of the sum of £15 received from Mr I)arrow, he bad spent £15 in travelling expenses. Paid M. Vaugharv £30 —£20 for money borrowed, and £10 for refreshments, &c; To a creditor : Might have told someone that he had paid £240 on the mill. - Had kept no account of the sum of £100 which be h^d when he went to the mill. Had paid £30 on the mill, but was not sure as to how he had expended the balance. 7 v - o: Several other questions of minor importance were asked the debtor;

Public examination.—Mr Lush, for defendant, a carter at Te Ai-oha, said an agreement had been come to. with the creditors for a payment of 20s in the £ by bills at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months.. The assets were over £800 and the liabilities a little over £300. Had given a bill for £30 for timber bought from Mr Gibbons, and when it fell due ho wished to deduct an account he bad against the holder of the bill, but, the latter objected, and sued him for the amount of the bill, Mr Gibbons obtained .judgment, and Bennett gave him a lien over his house in satisfaction of it, he was still further pressed by Mr Gibbons, and, for the pro* tection of his other creditors, he had filed his schedule. '■■ To Mr Gibbons : Had obtained timber to the further value of £47 after the £30 bill was given. Had not paid any cash off the bill, the only reduction of it was by cartage done; He (Mr Gibbous) had agreed to give debtor another 3 months. Bid not give a mortgage over the house/ owing to Mr Gibbons' lawyer stating that; the costs of it would amount to £20, or more. The usual order that the examination had closed was then made.

IN BE EDWIN HAimELD, LATE HOTELKKEEEB. Public examination.—Mr Lush for the bankrupt, who swore he was a hote - keeper at Waiorongamai, had been farm* ing at* Waikato. His wife had £400, which was expended partly in living and partly in the erection of the hotel, the balance of the money required for hotel and business was borrowed from Mr Jagger,, brewer, Auckland.—This, debtor had filed also to protect the creditors generally, on account of the pressure of one of them. His liabilities were £1951 and assets £2976. To the Deputy Assignee: Had assigned a section ,of land to his son early in the year; could not not account for the deed being dated 24th June—seven days before he filed. '- r On Mr Carpenter making an application that payments made to Hughes and George, and Porter and Co., and the assignment to the debtors sou be declared void, the Bench said there appeared to be circumstances demanding enquiry in connection with tnem. \ The examination was allowed to stand over until next month, in order to obtain an explanation relative to certain payments and the assignment referred to.

'-•' " ' . - Public ' examination.—Assets, £278; liabilities, £591.—Mr Lush for bankrupt, who deposed that he went to Te Aroha some, time .ago; was then solvent, and had considerable property in marketable shares. Had a hotel builfc at Te Aroha. Mr Ehrenfri-d found the woney for the building, and took a mortgage over it. Expended about £280 on the hotel. Found the business did not pay, owing to Te Aroha not being as prosperous as had been anticipated. Had to pay interest on the borrowed money, and found that .the' house was losing money. There was no money on the field until after the batterystarted. .
