The difficulty of obtaining spars long enough for the new poppet legs of the Big Pump., has been overcome by the manager purchasing the three masts out of the Senator (now a coal hulk in Auckland harbor, but formerly a paying steamboat). The spars are of pitch. pine, and were put yin merely to bring the vessel from San Francisco. Twa of, them are over 74ft. long. The fourth spar was obtained from Mr D. Gouk's ship-yard, Auckland. Anderson, was heard in Auckland yesterday. There was no appfarance" of the defendant. This was an action to reoover £500 damages for alleged breach of promise of marriage. Mr-Napier appeared for the plain!iff, and Wilhemina Pop Smith Mackay, described as a prepossessing person aged 21, deposed to defendant's promises to marry her, and to the birth of her child, a boy, "who was registered by Anderson. His Honor Mr Justice Gillies said that the case was: especially one. for the jury, as he could give them ho directions upon it. If they believed the plaintiff's story she was entitled to a verdict. There was no measure of damaged; that they would have to settle for themselves. Still while the girl's loss in character and otberwite could hever be made up to her, it would be no use awarding her such damages as would be too heavy to recover.; The damages should be regulated to some extant by the defendant's means. With* but leaving the box, the jury then returned a verdict for £250 damages, with costs.

The lonic, Oapt. Cimeron, arrived in Auckland at 4.30 p.m., yesterday, afternoon after a passage of 43 days 20 hours exclusire of stoppages. She left London on the 18th, Plymouth on the 19th, Teneriffe 25th June, and Hobart 30th July. So far as weather was concerned, ♦be passage was one of the finest made.
