Wairongomai Mining.
New Find.—There is but little alteration in the general appearance of the mine, which looks about as well as usual. In the low level the reef-in both faces continues to yield fair crushing dirt, the end towards the Diamond Gully having decidedly improved during the week. The leading stopes are also producing stone of good quality. In the Arizona level the lode in the drive northward shows no sign of any falling off, there being still' the same large body of quartz, which to all appearance should give the usual satisfactory returns. . Work in the south end has been at a standstill for a few days, but will shortly be resumed. The stopes in this portion of the mine, as well as those on the No. 2 reef, and in ;}. the surface block, continue to look healthy. Colonist.—-The water in the winzel proving too heavy, sinking was stopped earl y in the week, and a rise has been started from the low level.•■. Good pro* gress is being made, and a connection will.' 1 probably be effected about the end of next week.; The tenders which wire recently received for blocking out the reef at per ton being all at a higher figure than was expected, the idea of letting the' stop ing by contract has been abandoned, and the work is. now going on as before. Canadian.--Operations are at present confined to Williams'' lode, whioh is being stoped out above the upper level. It there averages over two feet in width, and yields stuff of fair quality. In the low level a crosscut is being put in to open up the same lode at a greater depth, and the manager expects to have it in hand in a day or two. ■ .■•■ ";;: ■-;";■■! .■■:;"'"; ';' ■'■ ."■.:' Coquette.—lt has been decided to have, a trial crushing of a few tons of the stuff, got out some time since from the winze near the Diamond Gully boundary. Should the yield be satisfactory, a low level ;will: be started, and working of the mine sys» tematically proceeded with. : v
Wellington.—Stopingis going on in the surface.block, wherethe leader is ■avenging.about a foot in thickness, and is turning out stone of payable grade. WAioKONGOMAii —The quartz wliiolr was left standing while the winze was bo/ ing sunk to the low lerel, has now been broken down, and hasshown alittle gold most; of; the way through. The intermediate drire is again being pushed ahead, and there the reef is about 18 inches^ thick, with gold occasionally visible it i the? stoned A parcel of 40 or 50 tons'will shortly be sent to the battery/ ■ Lucky Hit.—ln the" drire frotri the top of the winze the leader continues to look well for gold, but so far nothing has been.seen; in it. uTo connect with this drive^ a winze-has been^ started from: the workings- abore, and occasional colours are to be aeen in the stone taken out in Binking,; The Surface trattway ha»b«en

Ikvjsbness.—-The reef in the drive southward having been rather poor for the last few feet, work there has been suspended for the present, but will be resumed again as soon as the crushing nowgoing on is finished. A good supply of stuff is being got from the stopes where the reef is from two to three feet thick, andthe show^ which^ it iss now, making : at battery gives promise of a fair payable return/■/.;_- N;,. -■'.:>/y..
