NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.

Crushing hag been stopped Jat the Golden Crown battery, as thb .No> 2 lead at No. 6,.where a great many of the men are employed, being small, the company's own 22-head battery is sufficient crushing power for the present. TII9 manager reported on Saturday :—•• Retorting for the month took place to-day for the gdcd yield of lO74oz«i.4dwts. For this yield the-re has been 830 loadsofquartzand s§cwt. of specimens and picked stone reduced. 1 No. 6 level: A commencement was made yesterday to sink the winding shaft to open up another level. Progress will not be very rapid for the first 10ft, on account of so much winding from this level. I expect to be able to sink this lift much quicker than the last, as-we are uot likeljr to have any of the hard rock to contend with. The western drive on No. 2^lead is now in 84ft., or within 56ft; of th'e break, leaving still 112ft. to drive before the boundary is reached. The lead has been looking well during :the week, having produced some good specimens, some of which came from the very floor of the dr,ive. Just ahead of where the 501bs of stone were obtained yesterday, the lead spliced, and got much smaller, bat it has now opened out again. (This 501bs was not crushed for the month's return.) In the eastern drive the lead has not yet get clear of the smooth bangingwall, but I think it willnot' be long in doing so, as there is a good strong body of quartz forming in the face to-day, from which some nice picked stone were" obtained. There are now .six^stopes: in, hand here, three going west: and three going east, tho lead in all of which looks pretty well, and' the- country all over, the level still keeps of a splendid disc, ription for gold. No. 5 level: The south crosscut is now in a distance of 200ft., leaving still 80ft. to drive to the boundary. The eastern stopes on No. 2 lead are being carried on as usual, and gold is freely met with every breaking down. No. 4 level: The No, 2 lead in the eastern drive is now, a pretty strong body of quartz, looks promising, and ..is. carrying some good bright minerals, but-1 have not seen any gold of late. The stopes here are looking as usual. The stopes on^ No. 1 reef have reached No. 3 level, and most of the men em« ployed here have been removed to No. 6. A few lbs of picked stone have come to band from the hangingwall vein during the week. No. 3 level: Driring east on No. 1 reef has again been resumed with two shifts, and I expect to pick lip the reef again through the No^2 break in a few days. There are now only three stopes in progress above.this level.—G.S.C.labk."

MOANA.TAIEI. The manager reported for last week :— " Waitemata section: We are driving westerly from . new crosscut,' which is about 65ft below the bottom efWaite* mata shaft. The reef here is • about Bft wide. The footwall portion is the most likely, and this only is being taken in. the drive. Much of the .stone is well j mineralised, and promising for gold. The country also is becoming more settled and favorable for gold as the drive advances. No. 9, above 132ft level: We have obtained a few pounds of picked stone since my last, from prospecting drive, cast of winze, below G-uthrie's level. The lead is being stripped in western stopes. Morning Star workings are without change to report. _ Battery started on Friday; 15 head for company, 5 for tributers.—J. G. Viylin."
