One party was in favor of granting the subsidy, the other was favorablo to another system boing triedj with the result that the question has been adjourned until April next, when it is believed that a, resolution in favor of the subsidy will be carried. The contract" with New South Wales expires in December next, and the colony has to give three" months' notice of its intention to continue the service or not. It will be remembered that thiß New; Soutli VVales Gbvernmeht intimated; sometime ago that" unless a subsidy was granted to the ■service they would, decline to continue the agreement.
