This day. Between three and four o'clock this morning a fire broke out in a brick drapery .store occupied, by a tradesman named McDonald, and before its progress could be stayed, it was totally wrecked. The Terminus Hotel and Union Bank were also destroyed. The, furniture in the Terminus Hotel was partially saved. Fortunately the wind changed opportunely, or a much more serious conflagration would have occurred. Several large grain stores, which were well filled, being jeopardised. The insurances on the Terminus Hotel are £1400, in the New Zealand Office, and £550 in the Colonial; the brick store, £300 in the Victoria and £400 in the Colonial; and on the Bank, £200 in the Union. McDonald's stock was insured for £100 in the New Zealand Office.
