Electoral A CANDIDATE'S QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE THAMES. • : ■ Air: "I am tJie Ruler of t7ie Queen's Navee." —(from Pinafore). When I was young I seryed a term, as stoker to a mining firm ; But dirty hands are things I hate, so I began to cogitate, - ' When at once it; did occur to me, 'tis easy life in the Assembly. When at once, &o. I " tried on " almost every dodge—l was Master of an Orange Lodgo, 'Mongst Good Templara I was a dab, I had a good gift of the gab— thought that all and each degree, would help me into th' Assembly. -j I thought, &c. By luck on one eleotion day, tacked on to the skirts of Sir G-eorge Grey, I gulled the electors of City East, that in the Houso I'd serve them best: In one term they'd enough of me, for them no more in the Assembly. . In one term, &c. When on my feet I talked away, yet none took heed what I did say ; I insulted a member, then truth denied,* I committed political suicide;^ " I was looked upon contemptuously, by everyone in the Assembly. I was looked upon, &c. And when I rose to make a speech, most members for their bats would reach, Whilst some would try to take a nap, others would rush towards the tap, |To get a drink from Bellamy—l drove them ; from the A BBembly. To get a drink, &c. When I was .in the paper trade, on all in power attacks I made, At all their acts amuck did run, no credit gave for &ught they'd done ; How do you think they'll look on me. if I get get back to the Assembly ? How do you think, &o. Who will be Premier none can say—Vogel, Atkinson, or Grey— And those who heard my speech of late, when I expressed such bitter hate, With half an eye can plainly see, what chance . I'll have in the Assembly. With half an eye, Jcc. Can I expect from them support P Will you, thro' me, get what you ought ? However much I spout and foam, to Thames no benefit will come, The session ended, then I trow, you'll be no better off than now. . The session ended, &c.

VOTE FOR FEASEB, who has always assisted Mining enterprise. " [AdtbetHshment.] .'■ •■ WHAT HAS CADMAN DONE? (To the Editor of the Evening Star.) S lE,—The following extracts from Hansard will show that Cadman is one of the few Members of the House who has always been at his post attending continually to the interests of his constituents: — SESSION JBB2, Blue Book, September. 1. We find him in his place in Parliament advocating the encouragement of the mining industry, and amending the mining laws. n 2. Advocating the purchase of the native rights to the Nor: hern goldfields. 3. That the diamond drills should be placed at /the disposal of Counties for prospecting purposes.' 4. That cutting and forming. tracks should be undertaken by Government to enable prospectors to develop'the fieldJ SESSION 1883. 1. Calling for returns of how £20,000, voted in 1882 for goldfield expenditure, had been allocated. 2. Again advocating the purchase of the goldfield by Government, and pointing out that private parties were obtaining the freeholds of same at Thames. 3. Advocating the introduction of a Bill to mine for minerals other than geld on the Thames. 4. Advocating the planting of forest trees. 5. Calling for Mackay's report on the Thames goldfield, and agreement with the natives, to be sent to the Thames Library for public use. 6. Advocating tho Thames County's right to certain goldfield revenue. 7. Calling for return of native lands acquired by Government since 1873; also, how much acquired privately. 8. Beturns ef gold Gelds revenue paid to the Ooromandel and Thames Counties, Thames Borough, and natives. 9. Again advocating the encouragement' of f jrest trees planting. 10. Why Australian timber should be imported for sleepers, &c, to the detriment of local industry. , —In addition to the above, his rote, is found on almost every subject, proving beyond doubt that Mr Cadman is one of the most painstaking and hard-working members in the Parliament of the country. All this, and a thousand other natters entrusted to him by private parties, has Mr Cadman attended to in the most exemplary manner; and yet the Tbames people have never beard of it! Fancy Brodie acting like this way! Why, bless me, we all know the wires, and the newspapers would have been Brodie, Brodie—all Brodie. Cadman is sa'&br deficient in one thingblowing bjji owl fgumpet; and Brodie has one qualification—that is, blow, blow, blowing his own trumpet. .Well will it be for the country when we have fewer pot-house politicians, Bellamy carousers, and more thorough going, honest, and attentive legislators such as Cadman. 8418 1.108 TEAS, the Best Value on the 1 Thames, Delicious Flavor and Sterling Quality—GO TO MKARB and CO.'S, Pollen street. « — .
