Electoral' THAMES ELECTION. .TO THE ELECTORS'-OF THE DISTEId OF THAMEB. p ENTLEMEN,-. As I may be unable to communicate personally with each of you, I take this opportunity of placing my political views plainly before you; bo that, if after consideration you beliere I shall fairly represent your interests and conserve your rights, I may depend upon your votes and influence on the day of election*. I need hardly inform yon that I hare always been a believer in Sir Geo. Grey and his policy, and will accord him a liberal support, but I desire to go to Parliament as your "Representative perfectly untrammelled by any party cries, being, above all thing?, determined to uphold your interests. I am opposed to the Government as at present constituted, but am not prepared to hand over the North Island to Southern influence and control. In addition to having large personal interests in the Thames Goldfield, I believe I am qualified by lengthened experience to judge as to your real wants and requirements, and will endeavour to advocate such measures as will , mitigate the Miners' Bights and other I grievances under which^you now suffer. I am in favour of a Land Tax- for local purposes—especially affecting unimproved land, I am against Insular Separation, believing New Zealand united to be better and stronger than a divided colony. % I am in favour of free' and equal educational advantages being within the reach of every child, but would advocate economy in administering them without impairing their real efficiency. The ThamesvTe Aroha Sailway is an absolute necessity, and I will use my very best exertions towards securing its speedy completion. I think the right to dig gum should be obtainable by anyone on payment of a small license fee, and I am against the leasing of large blocks of land for these purposes, as it tends to create monopoly, enriching a few at the expense of the many. .-,- I am in favour of encouraging local industries' and ■ manufactories of every possible kind, and shall give mj best attention to those suitable to this district. In conclusion, I may remark that as mi property and interests are here, your, welfare and my own are identical. .. I- shall take an early opportunity of addressing you at public meetings, and giving at length a full explanation of my views, and answering in a straightforward way any questions that may be put to me. •. - v I have the honour to remain, Gentlemen, * Yours truly, W. FBASEK.
