FATAL ACCIDENT.
Man Crushed to Deaths
About four o'clock: this afternoon it was reported to the police that a main bad been killed in the Waiotahi Creek. t)ur re« porter at once proceeded to the Golden Age Hotel, whither, the body had been carried, and gathered the 'following particulars:—The deceased man, who was named Thomas Quaelly, was a tributer in the Moanatairi mine, along with a man named Mark Diamond. He had today commenced to open put a fresh drive. His mate, about three o'clock, walked round to see how Quaelly was getting on, and all ho could see of him was one arm, the rest of his body being buried by a slip of earth. Assistance was procured, and the unfortunate fellow was dug out as quickly as possible, but life was extinct. Quaelly waa about 51 years of age, and resided at the foot of the Waibtahi Oreek. An inquest will probably be held to morrow. ' .
