The manager of the New Prince Imperial telegraphed late yesterday afternoon that he had Secured 201bs of specimens from No. 2 reef at No. 6 level. Tbis welcome intelligence bad the effect of causing some business in sorip, which rose to-day to 20s the 3 o'clock list closing with buyers at that figure. At halfpast three the.following good news was posted: —" 701bs specimens, No. 6Jevel; leader making stronger ; good gold left showing.—G. S. CiiABK." This will probably cause a further rise in prices, as it augurs well for the richness of the block.
An alteration has been made in the p.s. Enterprise's time table. She -will leave the Thames for Cabbage Bay to-morrow, return* ing ob Sunday, and leaving again for Auckland at 5 o'clock ia the afternoon.

The Ohinemutu correspondent of the Bay of Plenty Times writes on June 30th that the natives had at last accepted the £5000 offered by Government for tho 20,000 acres of land for which negotiations have been going on so long. Another block of 7000 acres of land was purchased for the Government in Fats* tere South on the 30th.

Sib Geo. Geey addressed a meeting ot Auckland citizens last night at the Theatre Royal. Capfc. D. H. MoKenzio presided. There was a crowded audience. Sir George | received an enthusia'tie reception, and his I speech was well received. The natives at Ohinemutu are taking great interest in the coming election, as the following will show:—" A great meeting took place on Friday at the Tamate Kapua, with reference to the Maori member who is to represent the Native District in the next Parliament. Much difgust is manifested by the Ngatiwhakau on account of Petera Pukuatira having resigned in faror of Wi Keepa, the chief of the Tuhourangi, and those candidates who previously waived their right are now going to stand and contest the field, viz., Retieal Tapsell aad Aporo Te Titipipi. The East Coast candidates are James Carroll and Wi Piri Tomoana. It is expected that'there will be a very hot con* test among the Arawas and East Coast tribes. Retreat Tapsell is the favorite candidate here at present."
In the Wellington Supreme Court, yester day in banco, argument was heard in the case of Harding v. Milton. This was v case of considerable interest to publican?, being an appeal from the decision of the Beiding Magistrate at Wellington. The question at. issue was whether the posting of a placard in the bar of public-house announcing that the liquors supplied were adulterated with water was a sufficient notice under the Adulteration Act, which provides that the vendor shall bo liable to a penalty if the bu'k be increased, unless it be dealared at the time of eale that liquor is so adulterated. After argument, leave to appeal was allowed.
