Of the eight tenders for extending the western drive on the Vanguard lode 100 ft, the directors have accepted that of Dare and party at 22s 6d, and work will be commenced on Monday. The other tenders ranged§up to about £2. A rise is to be at once started on this reef, and it will be carried up from the point where the reef was intersected to No. 6 level, a distance of about 130 ft. Work on the reef in which gold was discovered at No. 7 level this week is to be pushed on vigorously. The drive will be extended westward, and stoping started as soon as possible. No quartz has been broken since Wednesday night. The reef is a dropper from the one from which the Bright Smile, took such large quantities of payable dirt, and as that became poor below where this one left it, ifc is thought it may carry the continuation of the shot of gold. '' - EOCKY POINT. Another parcel of 121bs picked stone was secured from the second stops to-day, the gold being accompanied by more mineral than hitherto. A capital show of the precious metal is still visible in the face. In the drive the reef was broken down again, and though no gold was seen the stone contains a lot of a rosiny substance which is generally close to gold. Quartz — probably a croas-leader—was struck in the dig this afternoon. This may have a good effect on the reef. DART.
The crosscut at No. 4 level is now fairly started, and the .face was this morning in Bft. from the winding shaft. The No. 1 reef should now be only a few feet distant, and will probably be intersected early next week.' The small block to the westward of the whim shaft, above Wo. 2 level, being exhausted, the men are now taking a trial parcel from the No. 2 reef, at the top of No. 1 winze from No. 2 level. The lode> was here very large, and colors of gold were seen to a depth of 40ft. in the winse, so if the trial proves payable a considerable quantity of crushing dirt will be available. The western drive on No. 2 reef at No. 3. level is being pushed oa, and the lead con» tinues to look promising., , NEW EUIiEKA (OTUNUT>. The battery has not been'kept fully employed even one shift during the past fortnight, owing to the road being still soft in places, but what dirt has been crushed; has shaped for ljozs per ton. In the mine the low level drive along the course of the slide has reached a poitr.fc under the winze from the surface level, but owing to the dip of both slide and reef carrying it away, solid stone baa not yet been ■ touched, though it s'aeuld come to hand very soon now, A rise has been started ti communicate with the winze, which 41ft above, but the reef should be\ struck before tkat distance has been risen.
