A TOUGH STEED.

Amongst surprising instances of vitality the following may well find a place. Nearly four weeks ago a couple of young men left Messrs Kussels and Carter's place on Lake Brunner on a shooting expedition, having'a horse with them belonging to Meßsrs Kussell and Carter. While they were shooting on the lake the horse got into the bush, and when the young men came back they were uncble to find it. Next day they resumed their search; but again in rain. For three consecutive days they searched high and low without finding any trace of the animal, which they gave up as irretrievably lost. Strange to say that yesterday, or exactly 25 days since the loss of the horse, a neighbor who was scouring the bush for a cow came across the missing animal entangled in a lot of supple-jacks, a good deal cut about the legs and reduced to a skeleton—a veritable gothic steed,'but still showing a surprising degree of vitality considering the difficulties under which it had to maintain an existence for 25 days. Tery little but supple-jacks was within reach of the poor brute's teeth, but it had subsisted on these as well as it could, and themunching of them had made its teeth quite black. It was something in favor of the beast that it was rolling fat when -lost. It is anticipated that with a little care the horse will be brought round all right.
