[Received June 6,1.20 p.m.] Meibottbne, This day. Mr Service, the Premier, has received a telegram from the Agent-General in London, stating that the report of the committee of the French Senate recently issued in no way removes the objections entertained by the colonies to the Recidiviste Bill provisions, which are not materially altered.
Met.boubne, Yesterday. Sailed, this morning : The Union steam* ship Tarawcra, for the Bluff.
Adelaide, Yesterday. The South Australian Parliament was opened to-day by his Excellency the Governor, who referred in his speech to the deeply-regretted death of Prince Leopold, and stated that a telegram had been sent to the Queen, for which her Majesty's thanks had been received. The Speech expressed regret at the low price of wheat in London, by which the colony had suffered. The harvest had been abundant. The institution of a land tax and income tax to meet the deficiency in the revenue was proposed, and the necessity to authorise the establishment of a Federal Council, for which plans would shortly be submitted to Parliament was also, announced. He said that Government intend to make arrangements for holding an International Exhibition in 1887.

Fourth Successive Victory.
The New Zealand Football Team played a match to-day against representatives of the Northern District at Newcastle. They scored another victory by 19 points to nil. The ground was wet and sloppy, heavy rain having fallen early in the day, and continued till a late hour in the forenoon. The visitors were subsequently entertained at a banquet by the local club.
