Skeleton Found at Tararu.
It was reported to the police on Satur- ! day night about 7 o'clock that a human skeleton had been found in the bush about a mile above the junction of the Tararu and Ohio creeks, and guided by Mr Ames Fisher, junr., the discoverer of the remains, Detective Doolan yesterday proceeded to the spot, gathered up the bones, and carried them to the Royal Hotel, Tararu, where an inquest was held this morning, before Dr Kilgour (Coroner), aud a jury of twelve, of whom Mr J. Wilson waschosen foreman. Amos Fisher deposed that on Saturday morning he was out pigeon shoot ing, when he saw the thigh bone of a human skeleton lying on the ground at the foot of a rata tree, and on further examining the place, he discovered a skull and a number of other bones lying in a hollow in the tree. The bones were perfectly free from flesh or sinew, nor was there any vestige of clothing lying near. He communicated the fact to the police. The jury returned a verdict to the effect that the bones were those of a human being, but whether European or Maori there was no evidence to show. The bones are, we are informed by Dr Kilgour, those of a male of rather be?o? the average height, and deceased has be'en a small-made man. No clue whatever has been discovered as to the man's identity, as no one answering in size has been missed, so far as is known. TheFishcra state that a man known by the soubriquet of " Wiggy " was supposed to have been lost some three years ago in the neighborhood, but it is certain the bones found are not his remains, as "Wiggy" was a man above the average size, and was seen in Parawai after the time mentioned by Mr Fisher, while it is also probable that the bones have been lying in the bush for a much longer period than three years. An order was given by the Coroner for their interment.
