The new air-shaft behind the engine house is drawing well, and the effect of the two greatly improve the ventilation throughout the mine. The country in the chamber at No. 6 level is blocky, though tight; the crosscut will Jw started next week. ' •'-'■:" ,' •"'
BELCHER. A parcel of 4 loads of quartz from the ;; hangingwall of the reef cut in- the shaft hag been put through at Bull's batter j for 2ozs 6dwts melted gold. Considering that no gold was seen in breaking out the < quartz, and that a return of only .about ■; 3iwts per load was expected, the yield it * encouraging, and will no doubt stimulate *. the proprietors to continue 'prospecting.... The southern drive on the lode is still being pushed on. HOCKY POINT. : ! Yesterday's return of 53ozj gold was . reduced on melting to-day to 51oks 18dwts. In the mine the manager is at present carrying the leading stope back to tho I Adelaide boundary, gold beiag seen freely I in breaking the lode down yesterday. 4L 1 start will be made on Monday to complete the laying down of i**n rails in General Chute tuuncl, there- being'some 400 ft yet to put down; thi3 expense will be jointly borne by the Adelaide and Rocky Point proprietors. This done, operations will be resumed by the Kocky Point, and the leading stope carried up to the faco of the' southern drive, the timbers put in, and driving again started. The manager doei not intend to do much stoping till the hoppersjare finished, which will be in . about alirtnight, as at,present the dirt has to be handled so often, but once they are ready, a block of 80ft will be open for operations to be carried on upon. CALEDONIAN. The winze on the Eed Queen leader below No 2. level is down aboutsoft; the leader is 9 inches wide, and at last breaking strong colors of gold were seen. The manager considers the dirt of payable quality. The stopes are also looking a little better, and the dirt at the battery , is shaping payably. ': . - NEWIJTND (TE AIIOHA.)
The No. 2 winze is down about 58 feet, and the reef is full 3ft. wide! Gold in paying; quantity is still showing, and the appearance of the stone is favorable for its continuance.. The rise and other workings in the Arizona level continue to yield 'stuff of good quality, and from the st*pea in the upper portion of the level quarts of fair grade is alto being 'obtained. . TiftM country is still being encountered jn thf low level. ~
