ILLUSIONS OR DELUSIONS.
-^ -.-(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) " T^l»,~Be>ading in Tuesday night's Star ~corri&ponderice a letter signed " J. Horn, headed " Illusion," I was not prepared for tbe^way which he so boldly lays himself open to rebuke. If there is more thau two old residents on the Thames lhaa ;'\himficlf nnd Mr Wood, who use your Xpaper with such dogmatic style and assurance, I should like to know their frames, and yet at the same time there is "to *my mind'no two who should say less, if they could see themselves as others secthem. W. Wood, a short time ago, took in hand and assisted all that he could the "conditional Immortality" people, and then when (ihe helping) 1 they had formed themselves iuto a society or church, he turned round, and let people know how far the? were astray, and printed slips on " The Extinguishers, and so forth, in his name for them; so with " J. Horn," who, by Ihe bye, I take to be the same who tendered for tho Karaka """ oreek being cleared, and, after his tender being accepted, wrote asking to be let off the contract aiid have his deposit returned, because he had made a mistake in: the figures. Does he not see that if he -is'liable to make a mistake, in figures, 'where b\\ who tender should be capable of not goinffwronjfcv'how much more liable ~ ho ; is to go wrong in matters unSseen in matters of faith and belief, -and for him ,to assert that there is no such 'thing as God or devil, Heaven or llcll as they believe in, is such a. piece of .presumption, to use a mild term, that it is nearly beyond credence—for he cannot prov-e what ho says. We read, " The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God," and for him to publish it in: this way "showß that heis under no.jUusion, but a - very good delusion ia<ked>;jand. Tfor an old man to take the joume^f'#iitppic-pared thus, does not seem tfo)jpf|Jilf%ay t for we -;.jnust all give ani^cd&Jst when we are .judged, and if he be^fctind not ready it will cot,bc for lack of time to prepare, or lack ol^'direction in God's word, cor for ' Jacfc'Tif reason provided and permitted to bo held by him, though au allwise, merciful, at the same time, a just God,—l am, . &c., H"- Dbiveb,
