Davenport, Esq., 33, Great Rusaell Street, Bloomsbury, London.—"Dear Sir, —W embrace this opportunity of congratulating you upon the widespread reputation this justly 1 esteemed medicine, De. Coins Beowhe's Chxobodxne, has earned for itself, not only in Hindostan, but all over the East. As a remedy of general utility, we much question whether a better is imported into the country, and we shall be glad to hear of its finding a place in every Anglo-Indian home. The other brands, we are bappy to say, are now relegated to the native bazaars, and, judging from their sale, we ncy their sojourn there will be but • evaneßcent. We could multiply instances ad infin.il m of the extraordinary efficacy of Da. Coins Beowne's Chxobodyne in Diarrhoea and Dj?t."ntery, Spasms, Cramps, Neuralgia, the Vomiting of Pregnancy, and as a general sedative, that nave occurred under our personal obserration during many years. In Choleraic Diarrhoea, and even in the more terrible forms of Cholera itself, we have witnessed its surprisingly controlling power. We have never used any other form of this medicine than Collis Browne's, from a firm conviction that it is decidedly the best, and also from a sense of duty we owe to the profession and the public, as we are of opinion '.that the substitution of any other than Collis Browne's is a DELIBBBATH BBEACH OS FAITH" ON TEE PABT OP THE CHEMIST TO PEESCEIBEE ABJ> PATIENT AIIKB, We are, sir, faithfully yours, Symes and Co., Members of the Pharm. SPECIALITY I SPECIALISTS! Draw on Nature — she compels you to honour tlie acceptance, mHIRTY years since, when Da Smith first _L commenced practice here, it wss thought by medical men, that to be a Specialist was derogatory to the professional man, but this, like most other innovations in scientific and lay matters, was found rather to aid than to be " infra dig " to tbafc profession, wherein the speciality was practised. Lallemand and Rioord, in France, and Acton, in England, were for years cried] down by their medical brethren. Now and for many past years they have been looked up to, and quoted, by every man who pretends to have any knowledge of the particular branch of the profession which these gentlemen specially devoted themselves to. It was the same with Erasmus Wilson, the " Skin Doctor," recently knighted by Her Majesty. Years since, it was the same with Dr. L. L. Smith, of Melbourne, who practised (as did Lallemand and Ricord) as a specialist. In all cases of diseases and habits which produce symptoms of Nervous Affections, of Skin Eruptions, of Prostration, and make human beings i-nvirile, or which unfit them to carry on the purposes of their being, or which demonstrates itself, on the other hand, in Eruptive Diseases and Secondary Forms of Affections. In all of these cases how necessary it is to have the Specialist who has devoted his whole lifetime to the studying a' d practising in thia one branch of his profession ? Hence, now, after so many years, all minutiae are familiar to him, and symptoms which (it is not unreasonable to suppose) may not strike the General Practitioner at once, now from constant practice and observation made Dr. L. L. Smith master of the Bubject. The medical profession—that is, tho more liberal-minded of them —have likewise recognised this fact, and Specialists now in every branch—oculists, aurists, sypnilic, mental diseases, chest diseases, and in fact every portion of the human frame, has > ow some member of the profession who devotes his time to that, and to none other. For instance, the "chest doctor" would on no account attend an accouc' ement, and the oculist would not think of setting a broken leg ; but each would advise hiß patient to go to that doctor who is most famed for treating the disease requiring special skill. De L. L. Smith asks those who require treatment for Weakness, Prostration, Barrenness, and Sterility, who?e frames and whose constitutions are shattered, to consult him as an expert—thirty (30) years practice .in this colony, with a practice extending throughout not only the Colonies but in ludia, China, Fiji, and even in England, he claims ought to be sufficient to cause every man or woman requiring such skill as is alluded to above, to consult him either personally or by letter. As a Syphilographer no other medical man has been able to hare such large experience as he possesses, and for other allied affectionB — such as Nervous disease—no one in the profession has enjoyed bo much public confidence.
