[Received April 26,11 a.m.] London, April 25. It is announced that the Hon. Childerg' proposals, as set forth in the budgeUast night, regarding the issue of new half sovereigns, will not affect Australian coinage.

In the House of Commons last night, Lord Edmund Fifcz-jJaaurice, Under-Sec-retary for Foreign Affairs, in reply to questions, stated that Government is awaiting further oommnuicatipns from the French Government on the gubject of the Becdivistes question, and that no nego* tiations had taken place with the German Government in reference to the transportation of French criminals to the Pacific.

London, April 24. The Eight Hon. H. C. B. Childers, Chancellor of the Exchequer, delivered his budget statement in the Mouse of Commons this evening. The estimated revenue for the ensuing financial year he placed at £85.500,000, and the expenditure at £85,250,000. He proposed to continue the reduction of the National Debt, and, £8,000.000 would be paid off during the year. In order to meet the deficiency arising from the re-coinage of worn and light coin it was proposed to issue gold ten-shilling pieces containing only ninetenths the quantity of gold contained in the present half-sovereigo. The spegch also announced that it was iutended to issue stock bearing interest at the rate of 2f per cent., which would be offered to the holders of all 3 per cent, consols. No increase in taxation was announced. Consols remain at 102f. The market rate of discount remains at If, and the bank rate at 2|. The total reserve of notes and bullion has advanced during the week to £15,800,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is now 49 per cent. New Zealand securities:—s per cent. 10-40 loan, 103f; 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 105 ; 4| per cent. 1879-1904 loan, 101|; 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 101^. Australian breadstuff's and tallow are without quotable change. The shipment of frozen mutton ex steamship British Queen has been landed in good condition, and is realising 6|d per pound. Hong Kong, April 24. Intelligence is to hand from Pekin reporting that Prince Hung, late First Secretary of State, and who was recently publicly degraded by the Empress, has since committed suicide. Pabis, April 24. The question of a projected European Congress on Egyptian affairs is being warmly discussed by the French Press, and claims are again being put forth on behalf of France to share the British influence in Egypt, and in the control of Egyptian finances.
