DART.
The manager this morning secured 201bs of picked stone while breaking down a portion of No. 2 reef which was j standing near the floor of. the western drive at No. 3 level, at a point some 20ftJ distant from the No. 2 winze. Some gold was got in the reef just here when the drive was put in.' 'The shaft is down 45ft below No. 3, and the country is a favorable white class of sandstone. : , No work has been done on the Alfred leader this week, and the No. 2 reef in the '"eastern drive has not been broken down. The manager, in his latest report, stales that 138 loads , general dirt have been treated for the . yield of 3620zs of amalgam; be expects 2500zs gold for the month. BRIGHT SMILE. The manager yesterday discovered the old main reef in the Deeside tunnel from the' Alabama creek, and has started driving on it. to reach the junction of Garvey's foot wall lead, which should be about 80 or 90ft distant. The reef is small at present. The winze from Garrey's low level has been sank 40ft. At this depth a hard boulder was met with, so the manager started driving east to get the junction with the main reef. The lead is about 8 inches wide, and shows gold, but so far no mineral seams at the junctions of which the specimens are generally found, have jet been met with. The Deeside tunnel is about 20ft. below the intermediate level, from the winze, but once the two are connected, stoping will be started, and the manager then hopes to be able to have regular crushings again. The quartz will'have to be hauled up to Garvev's level, bat all the mullock, the disposal of whichis the greatest difficulty, Trill be sentto the Deeside level. GOLD RETURNS.
